Search Finney County Court Dockets

Garden City's court clerk keeps the running case record, and a separate public calendar shows scheduled events. Finney County, Kansas searches use both. District court or city municipal court comes first, since each keeps its own file. District cases begin with the statewide search service and continue with the clerk in Garden City or the courthouse terminal when the service falls short. Municipal cases stay with the city. A Finney County court docket search that knows which court and which tool reads the case correctly.

Finney County Docket Search Limits

Kansas CaseSearch replaced the older Public Access Portal workflow. Search fields now cover case number, party name, business name, and citation number. Advanced filters narrow results by category, date of birth, or filing dates. A human-verification step is part of the live process. Older instructions may mention Smart Search or a different portal layout. Those may not match what a Finney searcher actually sees.

A blank result proves nothing legally. The spelling may differ. A new filing may not be indexed yet. The court choice may be wrong, or access may be restricted. Drop fields, try name variants, and double-check the case number. After that, use the courthouse terminal or ask the clerk. Finney County case search steps walk through those filters in detail.

An official Kansas district-records explanation shows why online and courthouse access stay separate channels.

Kansas district court records access information

Finney County works the same way. A portal result can point to a case, while the clerk still holds the record itself.

Quick check: Kansas CaseSearch covers state district cases. It is not the public search for every municipal ticket, federal case, or criminal-history record.

What a Court Docket Shows

A Finney County docket, or register of actions, identifies the court, case number, caption, case type, filing date, status, judicial officer, parties, and attorneys. It also carries a chronological event list. Each event row may carry a date, description, location, or result. The public calendar does a different job. It lists scheduled events with a subject, start and end time, facility, room, and whether the event uses video or Zoom. Neither view guarantees that every filed document opens online.

Case numberA court-assigned identifier, often the safest search key.
PartiesNames shown in the public caption, subject to access limits.
EventsA dated index of public filings, orders, settings, and actions.
SettingsScheduled date, time, room, facility, or remote format when posted.
CourtThe court and judicial division connected to the entry.
DispositionA recorded outcome, which should be read in its case context.

Three Finney County Docket Systems

People say “docket” for three records that do not match. Kansas CaseSearch is a public index of district cases. The 25th Judicial District calendar lists scheduled public events. Garden City and Holcomb municipal courts keep their own city-case information. A payment vendor may find a citation. But that payment screen is not the full chronological case record.

Event index
The dated list of activity recorded in a case.
Calendar setting
A scheduled court event that may later move or be canceled.
Filed document
The actual pleading, order, notice, or other item held in the court file.
Certified copy
A clerk-issued copy authenticated as an official court record.

Define the record you need first. A hearing date calls for the calendar and the clerk. A case history calls for the event index. The text of an order calls for the document itself.

Which Courts Keep Dockets

Finney County anchors Kansas's six-county 25th Judicial District. The Finney County District Court handles state trial matters through district-court divisions and a magistrate. Garden City and Holcomb municipal courts handle alleged violations of their own city ordinances. Kansas appellate records sit with the Court of Appeals or Supreme Court. Federal cases run through PACER and the federal clerks. Pick the right system first, or a search may return nothing when the case exists.

Finney County Docket Access Point

The Finney County District Court sits at 425 N 8th Street in Garden City. Its published policies place a public computer in the courthouse lobby for public case information. That terminal is no leftover. It is an official access path when online details are thin. An older record may need a closer look. So will a case that will not surface remotely.

Public hours run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, subject to holidays and court operations. Expect security screening at the door. Weapons are barred. Disruptive conduct, food, drinks, and photography or recording in court areas are restricted. Call ahead if accommodations, device rules, or file availability could affect the visit. Remember that a terminal result is still an index. Ask the clerk for the actual document when its text matters.

The official Finney court page posts current courthouse notices and contacts.

Finding Court Dates and Settings

Start with the district calendar. Filter it to Finney County District Court and switch between list, week, and month views. Each entry can show the event subject, start and end times, room, facility, and video or Zoom details. Read past events with care. A calendar entry only proves something was posted; it does not prove the hearing happened as first listed or that the case was resolved. The docket tells you what was set, not what resulted.

The posted local rules describe regular patterns. Weekday video dockets are common, traffic settings fall on Wednesdays, and small-claims and eviction settings come on Thursdays. Treat those patterns as background, not a guarantee. A continuance, an emergency order, or a change in judges can move any setting. So check the live Finney County court calendar first, and confirm anything urgent or confusing with the clerk.

Task-specific sources sit outside the case index too. The court's official jury information is one example.

Jury duty and docket settings answer different questions, so follow the notice tied to your specific court task.

Finney County Docket Numbers

Official Kansas Judicial Branch tables reported 1,754 Finney civil filings for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Limited actions accounted for 1,235. The criminal table added 411 felony and 82 misdemeanor filings, with three entries in its appeals field. Traffic was reported separately, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025: 1,453 filings. Garden City keeps its own municipal count. It estimates about 3,000 cases a year.

1,754FY2024 civil filings
493FY2024 felony and misdemeanor filings
1,453FY2025 traffic filings

The counts measure different things. Each comes from its own system and reporting period. They are not a list of people. They are not a screening database either. Garden City's estimate covers several municipal case types, so leave it out of any sum with the state traffic figure. What the figures really show is why one search path cannot answer every Finney docket question, and the county's local and state entities directory confirms which public bodies serve Finney residents.

That directory supports the distinction between county, city, and state record custodians.

Public Access to Dockets

Kansas court-record access flows from statutes. It also rests on Supreme Court rules, court orders, and the Kansas Open Records Act. Public access does not put every field online. Juvenile, child-in-need-of-care, adoption, sealed, expunged, and protection matters may be restricted. Personal identifiers get redacted as well. A blank portal result proves nothing, so ask the clerk about lawful access instead.

Key Rules:

Kansas Open Records Act sets the general state policy for access to public records and its exemptions.

K.S.A. 45-218 addresses access procedures and reasonable restrictions that protect records.

K.S.A. 45-221 lists categories that may be closed or withheld.

K.S.A. 45-230 limits use of certain public-record lists for commercial solicitation.

Finney County Docket Copies

An online event description is not the filing itself. To get the document, give the Finney District Court Clerk a case number, party names, and an approximate filing period. Add the document title or event date and your preferred format. A focused request helps staff find the record fast. It also gets you a cost estimate. The clerk's published schedule lists plain paper copies at 25 cents per page and microfilm copies at 50 cents per page. Certification costs $1 per document. Extra retrieval work or a special format can add fees.

Ask for a cost estimate before any broad request. Ticket-payment, filing, and vendor charges stay separate. The 25th Judicial District's official probation page shows a separate route for post-sentencing services.

The Clerk and Docket Records

District Court Clerk Christine Blake is the local route for Finney district docket information. The office also handles court-file copies. Callers can be routed by matter. Options include traffic and criminal, domestic and child support, civil and small claims, juvenile, jury service, and Spanish assistance. Staff cannot give legal advice. They can explain record availability, request steps, copy charges, and the right division to reach. For a Finney court docket question, that office is the starting point.

Finney County Municipal Docket Split

A city ticket does not start in Kansas CaseSearch. Garden City Municipal Court handles alleged violations inside the city limits, from traffic, misdemeanor, and parking matters to nuisance, zoning, fire-code, and other ordinances. Its current court page lists 301 N 7th Street and 620-276-1150. The city's citation search and nCourt route can locate or pay some matters. When an older vendor address disagrees, the current city page should control. Call before visiting.

Holcomb posts no full public docket-search portal. Its clerk at City Hall is the direct route for dates, ticket payments, notices, warrants, suspensions, reinstatements, and case correspondence. Court usually runs on the first and third Monday at 4 p.m. in the Holcomb Fire Station Meeting Room. The live list has not always matched that pattern. Verify posted dates with the clerk.

Federal matters take a separate path. Use the Wichita federal clerk route rather than a Finney state search.

United States District Court Wichita clerk office information

Federal dockets belong to PACER and the federal courts.

Finney County Federal Dockets Use PACER

Some cases with Finney County ties land in federal court instead. The U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas keeps no courthouse in Finney County. Its Wichita clerk's office sits at 401 N. Market, Room 204. Federal district filings are searched through PACER and CM/ECF. Bankruptcy works the same way. It runs through a separate court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas, which runs its own PACER route. Appeals from either federal court go up to the Tenth Circuit.

Kansas CaseSearch will not surface these dockets. PACER is the official federal access service. CourtListener's RECAP collection can supplement it. Documents already contributed there can fill gaps, though a missing RECAP item does not mean the filing is absent. For federal fees, sealed-record rules, and public-terminal options, confirm with the relevant federal court.

Court Dockets by City in Finney County

Finney County contains two incorporated cities. Garden City runs a municipal citation-search route and reports a much larger city-court volume. Holcomb takes a simpler path. Allow plenty of time to park and enter. Jury guidance for the building instructs visitors to bring photo identification, leave chemical sprays, firearms, and weapons in the vehicle, and expect that cell phones may not be permitted in a courtroom. No parking-lot map or public-transit route has been published, so calling the clerk before an in-person records visit is worthwhile, especially for an older, sealed, or certified document.
